I love food. I love traveling. So I like to mix the two. Sometimes i post recipes, sometimes I talk about food i've had. Or I give tips, ideas, etc
Food and Friends, Lasagna, and Old Blue Eyes steak

While visiting the Coolest Small Town in America, my wife, Randee, and I were looking for a delicious place to eat. We had decided on Stardust Cafe, here in historic downtown Lewisburg, WV, after several recommendations, but once we got there, we discovered that it was unfortunately closed for the week. However, we quickly discovered the fancy looking place called Food and Friends (check out another review on the place, here).

This restaurant, featured on the Food

Networks “Best Of…” was fairly crowdedwhen we went here around 7:00pm on a Friday night in January. They asked us if we had reservations, we didn’t, but they were happy to seat us anyway. Our service was great and the place was fancy. I ordered a dish called “Old Blue Eyes” and my wife ordered Lasagna Classico. They both came with our choice of salad or soup and a delicious homemade bread baked in what appeared to be a flower pot. What a cool idea!

The Lasagna Classico that Randee ordered was a large slice of lasagna with several layers of noodles, sauce, cheese, and meat, that came with several nice Lasagna Classico looking pieces of garlic bread. I personally forgot to try it but Randee said it was “quite delicious” and she loved the four different cheeses, spices, and said it was very “tomatoey” (which I take to mean fresh, acidic, and crisp). They probably weren’t canned tomatoes. So, good?

“quite delicious”

I ordered the Old Blue Eyes. It is a blackened 10oz New York Strip steak with blue cheese butter and a wild mushroom sauce. Interesting combination, right? I thought it sounded interesting. I ordered it with a baked potato and steamed vegetables. Both the baked potato and vegetable were cooked to perfection. I ordered my steak “medium” and received ”medium”. Spot on! It was obviously cooked on a grill because it had that good “charred”, blackened flavor on the outside, it was seasoned in some black pepper. Once cooked, this delicious steak was covered in a blue cheese butter, which is exactly that, blue cheese mixed with whipped butter, and then on top of it was a wild mushroom sauce. The mushroom sauce was made up of a variety of wild mushrooms including portobello, crimini, shitake, morel, and chanterelle (look em up yourself!). I could definitely taste some red wine, beef broth, butter, onions, garlic, olive oil, and rosemary. Delicious! Although, I could have used some more the of wild mushroom sauce, and the steak did NOT have that “wow” factor. It was still a pretty good steak. I’m a fan.

I give this “Old Blue Eyes” steak from Food and Friends a good 4.5/5 plates

“Steaklicious!”
